For almost 90 years, Syska New York has helped shape the built environment in New York City, across the U.S. and around the world.

J. Hennessy and A. Syska founded our firm right here in New York City with a mission: to design the complex mechanical and electrical systems at the heart of iconic structures.

We began by designing the core systems for new—and enduring—and technically sophisticated buildings, including LaGuardia Airport, intergovernmental headquarters, Columbia University and Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Over the last two decades, Syska New York expanded to become a world leader in designing energy- and cost-efficient systems for airports, commercial offices, data centers, higher education, government, healthcare facilities and mixed-use supertall buildings.

Today, Syska is New York’s leading full-service MEP, ICT and commissioning engineer for the commercial sector. We provide a full range of engineering services, including architectural lighting, fire protection, energy modeling, technology, audiovisual and security for clients that include Bloomberg and SL Green Realty Corp.

For instance, we have partnered with New York-Presbyterian, a world-class healthcare organization at the vanguard of patient care for more than five decades.

We have our finger on the pulse of local building trends, but our global network allows our New York team to complete large critical facilities’ projects for national and international clients, including BBVA in Mexico City, a government agency near Washington, DC, and a confidential software company in the Pacific Northwest.

We’re even more excited about the future. New technologies enable us to provide high-performing, smart, connected, sustainable and resilient solutions.

We are reinvigorating depressed assets, upgrading Class C offices into Class A headquarters. We retrofit outdated mid-century infrastructure up to today’s standards, reducing both operating costs and energy use, which recently included:

  • Cooper Union’s LEED Platinum New Academic Building (academic and laboratory building).
  • Manhattan College’s LEED Gold Raymond W. Kelly ’63 Student Commons.
  • Projects with New York-Presbyterian and The Mount Sinai Medical Center.

To operate effectively as an extension of our clients’ projects’ expanded team of architects, builders and owners reps, we invest in our employees’ professional development and knowledge sharing through our Engineering Development Training (EDT) and Syska Employee Network of Support and Education (SENSE).

Improving Our Communities

Giving back is an essential part of our DNA. We actively support—and encourage employee participation in—a select number of essential causes such as Girls Inc..

We support the development of future industry leaders through initiatives with ACE, mentoring high schoolers interested in architecture, construction and engineering. By partnering with KaTO Design, our employees have helped design and build public schools in Costa Rica and Mexico.
