E! Entertainment Studio

Syska Hennessy Group helped E! Networks, a thriving entertainment
company based in Los Angeles, CA relocate to a new building in
the Wilshire Courtyard. This new space gives them both 300,000
sq. ft. of space now, plus the possibility of taking over the entire
building to accommodate future growth. The new four-story space
includes live studios, technical areas including post-production,
master control, duplicating and a regional MIS/data center, as
well as general and executive office space.
Syska overcame several challenges to this project, which combined
with a fast track schedule, required precise project phasing with
design and construction occurring simultaneously, as well as intense
coordination among the entire design team.
One business driven challenge was to meet redundancy requirements
to assure the continuous operations of E!’s studio programming
and scheduling. Mechanical and electrical systems were designed
to provide 7x24 operations for all technical areas including studios,
master control and all postproduction. Emergency power was designed
in, provided by a fully redundant UPS system backed up by an emergency
generator. Special mechanical systems were designed to meet specific
acoustic requirements as well provide redundancy.

A second challenge successfully met was the need for NC15 acoustical
requirements within the studios, audio sweetening rooms and voice-over
booth. This goal was achieved by completely separating the studios
from the rest of the building by creating a box within a box through
the use of a floating floor and special acoustic walls and ceilings.
The new studio area includes two large television studios. Studio
support areas include audio rooms, machine rooms, and post production
and operations areas. In addition to studio and support areas
there is an extensive tape library, duplication and engineering
workshops.
