Sony Electronics sought to re-focus its energies on the creative future of
lifestyle entertainment. In doing so, the company decided to bring facilities
from San Francisco, California and Park Ridge, New Jersey under one roof in
a new location. The Los Angeles area was selected for its diverse community
and proximity to Sony Pictures, Sony-BMG Music, and Sony Electronics U.S. Headquarters
in San Diego. Based on a positive working relationship with Syska Hennessy
Group on past projects, Sony selected our team to design the 24,000 sq. foot
creative office space in Santa Monica.
The scope included Building Systems and Architectural Lighting
Design. This modern office space features an open-ceiling environment
that exposes duct work and fire protection systems. As such, the
design incorporates a pleasing aesthetic in addition to functionality.
The design combined with the close coordination between the team
members achieved the desired goal of creating the exposed of ductwork,
piping and conduit distribution within the space.
The result is a space, which features a showroom that is able
to offer a diversity of settings. Different layouts, configurations,
and furniture to create different environments in the showroom
necessitated specific detail and a variety of systems in their
designs so that Sony’s designers can test their products
in multiple settings and situations.
