Syska’s Outcome E²C™ (E² represents the prime importance
of engineering. C represents our construction process). By working
together, our Outcome E²C™ construction process leverages our
engineering experience and our operational experience with our
construction expertise to deliver building systems and facilities
that meet the exacting demands of scientists, and bottom line
goals of owners. The critical interface and collaboration between
our engineers and constructors can not be over-emphasized. As
an example when relocating critical gas piping and mechanical
systems for a series of labs, the design and constructability
of the systems, along with the construction phasing and choreography
must be considered all at once. Here engineering and construction
can not be separated if you must insure that there are no user
impacts from the adjacent labs. Outcome E²C™'s engineering
construction team is charged with start-to-completion responsibility
on each project. Our process ensures integration of internal
and external stakeholder’s needs including:
- Research
- Quality Control
- Real Estate
- Procurement
- Process Engineering
- Environmental Health & Safety
- Capital Projects
- Commissioning & Validation

- Information Technology
- Manufacturing
- Risk Management
- Construction

Our Research: We learned that despite the
fact that bio-pharm facilities are so highly technical, and
that the systems in that facility play such an integral part
of it’s function, those technical systems are time-and-time-again
compromised during the construction process. Additionally,
because of that compromised system integrity, the facility’s
need for flexibility and change is not addressed.
As the chart below illustrates, there are distinct differences
in traditional construction delivery methods. In the traditional
Design/Bid/Build process, there is a hand off from engineer
(green bar) to contractor (blue bar) at about 40% through design
development. The engineer then takes a back seat to the construction
team.
In Design-Build, there is a total hand off at 30% - though
the time schedule is shortened, the contractor is then making
all the technical decisions.
With Outcome E²C™ the engineering and construction are
intertwined in a fast track delivery. Technical systems are
not compromised. This is made possible because of a collaborative
process with the engineer and builder aligned with one common
goal rather than a hand off from one to the other.
Why We’re Different: Our Outcome
E²C™ process is collaborative with the
designer and builder aligned with one common goal rather
than a hand off from one to the other. Because we engineer,
construct and operate facilities, all of those elements go
into the design of a facility. Outcome E²C™ specifically
addresses construction or renovation of highly technical
spaces. We specialize in live spaces, when an engineer can
provide a significant difference to the quality, function,
schedule or choreography of a project.

What is Our Niche? As the chart above shows, we are not bricks
and sticks contractors, nor are we standard tenant improvement
contractors. In order to be potent and focused, we specialize
only on construction projects where a building system failure
can be catastrophic to operations. We know high-risk renovations
must occur while adjacent facilities, such as labs, remain
in operation. We are particularly adept at working in live
spaces, where our combined engineering and construction team
can provide a significant difference to the phasing and choreography,
schedule, quality, and function of a project. The project size
on which we focus is typically $1-$20 million.
Clients See The Difference: Client surveys
revealed a noticeable difference by using our Outcome E²C™ process.
Nine out of ten owners surveyed commented on how the integrated
engineering and construction approach was a significant benefit
to them. “The single point of contact knows [the project]
not only from the design standpoint, but all the way through
construction, commissioning and troubleshooting. Having continuity
is a big benefit on complex technology driven projects.” They
also said that the Outcome E²C™ process “removes
the conflicts between engineers and contractors – with
no finger pointing - building in a much smoother implementation
effort.”
