For the past ten years this client has been dedicated to the
development of medications for the treatment of diabetes and other
related conditions. After years of clinical trials, the client
began production of a prescription therapy for the treatment of
Type II diabetes. Syska provided the engineering design for a FDA-validated,
production quality control and stability testing laboratory. Due
to speed to market concerns, Syska was challenged to complete services
within an aggressive 12-month schedule.
The laboratory space is located within an existing facility
with rooftop load capacity limitations. The design team evaluated
potential solutions and opted to incorporate an internal equipment
mezzanine. This space extends up through the roof and supports
the boiler room, two 100% outside air central air handlers,
electrical distribution gear, transformers and all the variable
frequency drives for both the air handlers and exhaust fans.
Sound attenuators and vibration isolators were also attached
to all exhaust fans and air handlers to limit the noise and
vibration transmittance into the lab spaces below. Climate
control within the laboratories was also a key concern. As
such, variable-air-volume valves and controls were utilized
to maintain space temperature and pressurization.
Ultimately the team completed all services on time and incorporated
strategies necessary to support flexible systems capable of supporting
the facility's current program and future unknown uses. |
