Anaheim Convention Center Ballroom

Anaheim Convention Center Exterior
Anaheim first became a meetings and conventions destination in
1967. Today, after 3 major expansion projects plus several cosmetic
renovations, the Anaheim Convention Center consists of 815,000
sq. ft. of exhibit space, making it the largest exhibit facility
on
the West Coast and sixth largest facility in United States. Competing
with Los Angeles, San Diego and Long Beach the Anaheim Convention
Center offers not only a great venue, but also is closely located
to the Anaheim Pond, Edison Field and Disneyland. For their third
expansion, the City of Anaheim asked Syska Hennessy Group and HOK
to lead the design team in the design of this 750,000 sq. ft.
expansion.
The first phase of the expansion consisted of the existing facility
being consolidated into a more efficient and attractive facility.
The consolidation included life safety upgrades to the existing
exhibit halls, and the addition of exhibit space, a 38,000 sq. ft.
ballroom, lobby, pre-function space and a kitchen. To retain the
current client base, the convention center remained fully operational
during construction. At that time, construction was phased to ensure
availability of meeting space.
The central utilities underwent similar additions during the expansion
in which four separate chiller plants now serve the convention center.
To accommodate current growth, lower operating costs and facilitate
maintenance, a central utilities plan was also developed. A new
chiller plant and distributed piping to the facility has been designed
to work concurrently with the existing chiller plants. The new plant
is designed to expand so it will take over the capacity of the existing
plants as they are taken off-line at the end of their useful life.
Upgraded systems include chillers, building automations systems,
exhibitor utilities, the telephone system and fire alarm system.
