Walter Reed Army Medical Center
As a result of an emergency power system failure, the Walter Reed
Army Medical Center engaged Syska Hennessy Group to provide design-build
services for the replacement of 6 main 1,500 kW emergency generators
for back-up power in a temporary, remote location from the Walter
Reed Army Medical Center hospital within its own compound. Work
included the installation of the following: six 1,500 kW
generators, output switchboards with enclosures, chain link compound,
and infrastructure that included feeders, fuel, controls, and force
protection. Syska supplied three additional temporary generators
to provide backup power for the hospital during the entire project.
Syska’s Facilities Management team commissioned the new emergency
power system. The commissioning included factory witness
tests, pre-functional and integrated function testing which included
the following:
- Physical Inspections
- Safety Run Tests
- Continuous Engine Run Load Tests
- Fuel Consumption tests
- Voltage Regulator Range Tests
- Governor Adjustment Range Tests
- Combination Tests
- Sequence of Operation Tests
- ATS Tests
- Fuel Oil System Tests
- Final Testing and Inspection
