Our Opinion #1: A Technical Paper Series
Keeping Your Cool In Critical Facilities

The need to accommodate higher heat-producing hardware within the confines of existing critical facilities has prompted the introduction of “liquid-cooled” cabinet solutions. Can these new solutions really “quench” the heat they promise without breaking the bank energy-wise?

Syska’s Critical Facilities team has reduced the myriad of cooling technologies available to five distinct scenarios, and then added three additional scenarios that may become available in the future. Our goal is to focus on what (if any) energy savings can be attained associated with the various options available.

“Maximizing Data Center Space” - 2006 BICSI Link Workshops
June 27
John Passanante, vice president, and RCDD/NTS specialist from Syska Hennessy Group, New York will be presenting “Maximizing Data Center Space,” which will discuss various Mechanical, Electrical and IT systems and how to design an optimal layout of a data center. Syska co-presenters also include Christopher Johnston, PE, critical facilities chief engineer and vice president and Joseph O’Sullivan, associate partner.

Datacenter Dynamics San Francisco
July 27
Jerry Burkhardt and Philip Curtis will be presenting “Revisiting the data center classification model; the definition and balancing of ‘Criticality Levels™’, Reliability Modeling and Performance Benchmarking.” Various data center tier classifications have been in use for some time, but their relevance to an increasingly complex infrastructure landscape is now coming into question. Syska has developed a newly defined and detailed approach to the levels of criticality for data, telecom and other critical facilities, and the comprehensive balance of all parameters to a given Criticality Level.
