Catholic
Healthcare West (CHW) provides health care services for over four
million patients annually in California, Arizona and Nevada. With
an overall growth rate of 20% per year, their data center was quickly
nearing its capacity, prompting them to turn to Syska Hennessy
Group’s Critical Facilities Team to conduct an MEP and Controls
survey to evaluate their capacity and reliability issues.
Housed in an older building with limited space, load-shedding
issues (cutting off electric power when demand is greater than
supply) and other constraints, their 18,000 sq. ft. data center
posed unique capacity and reliability challenges. In addition,
with only a single data center, high reliability was vital to maintaining
24x7 operations.
The Syska Team presented its findings to CHW’s Board of
Directors and provided design concepts for upgrade and problem
area resolution. The Team also highlighted and prioritized areas
of vulnerability in the Critical Facilities infrastructure. In
addition, Syska reviewed recent upgrades made by other firms and
determined where progress was made and where the upgrades may have
introduced other concerns.
