Lowe’s operates over
1,250 stores in 49 states and has been in business more than
60 years. Their aggressive expansion led to the addition
of a new disaster recovery data center. This nationwide
facility, storing back-up equipment, will house all of Lowe’s
IT operations in an emergency.
The structure was built into the side of a hill to
minimize the building’s footprint and wind profile, which in
turn lessened potential tornado and hurricane impact. With a
limited budget and wide range of expectations from the client’s
four different operational units, Syska’s project team facilitated
communication, provided expertise, and coordinated
feedback to ensure consensus of overall project
goals.
The ultimate solution was a scalable/expandable 2N electrical infrastructure
with N + 1 Mechanical and Generator infrastructure. Day one construction
accomodated infrastructure space for a 40,000 sq ft data center, 20,000
sq ft of constructed data center white space, 10,000 sq ft of data center
empty shell space, and site space available to expand 10,000 sq ft more. This
solution allows Lowe’s to add infrastructure equipment and data
center white space as required to keep pace with their growing needs
over the next twenty years.
