With recent acquisitions of other media companies, Time
Inc. embarked upon a Rolling Refurbishment Program to create a
state-of-the-art office facility to support this increased productivity.
The original award for the building systems design was back in
December of 2001, with our lighting design and audiovisual services
being added on shortly thereafter. After successful project coordination
of these integrated services during the first two phases, we were
again awarded the lighting and audiovisual design along with our
building design consulting. The scope of project for Phase III
consists of four floors totaling almost 100,000 sq. ft. with an
anticipated completion date of June 2004.
Syska Hennessy Group Technology was retained to design an integrated
and comprehensive information technology system and infrastructure,
paging, video distribution and audiovisual system that will be
flexible, scalable and reliable. The IT infrastructure will be
standards based, structured and vendor-independent, accommodating
current and anticipated communication technologies and systems.
Syska's services include engineering and consulting services
involving the design, installation, and construction of the IT
systems (voice and data, including paging and video distribution)
and infrastructure. This includes a design that will support
the use of a single IDF on each of the tower floors. These IDF’s,
on floors 8 – 46, will support half the floor it resides
on and half the floor below, redundant power and backbone fiber
for each IDF to ensure reliability, an intelligent patching system
capable of self-discovering and then monitoring every device
connected to the network, correlating it with the physical layer
infrastructure documentation to indicate the exact location and
full-circuit trace, a design that will support the deployment
of voice over IP and wireless LAN, a paging system that can be
re-used when the floors are renovated as part of the rolling
refurbishment.
Syska's services also included the engineering and consulting
services involving the design, installation, and construction
of the audiovisual systems for the rolling refurbishment project.
They include, fitting out a large conference room on each floor
with basic audiovisual capabilities to support the display and
presentation of video and computer based materials such as Power
Point presentations, CATV, VCRs and DVDs. These rooms will include
audio conferencing with infrastructure to support videoconferencing
in the future and the design of a feature wall in each lobby
to be powered by a ceiling mounted projector and a screen built
into the wall.
