Bronx Mental Health Redevelopment Center - New Childrens Facility
New York State has a large, multi-faceted mental health system, operated by the Office of Mental Health (OMH), serving more than 500,000 individuals each year. In conjunction with the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY), OMH is undertaking the redevelopment of the Bronx Psychiatric Center campus. Syska was selected to provide engineering services for the new 160,000 square foot childrens facility and a new central plant.
When completed in 2012, the Psychiatric Center and new Childrens Facility will feature 78 beds, and spaces for Pediatrics, Behavioral Health and Rehabilitations services.
Our design will incorporate state-of-the-art technologies including high performance building and energy efficiency solutions. As such, the project is seeking LEED Silver certification. The central plant will serve the childrens facility and other buildings on campus including a new adult facility.
One of the project requirements mandated by OMH and DASNY is the use of REVIT, a building information modeling software, by all architects and engineers involved in the redevelopment project. Our team is interactively coordinating with many consultants and multiple government agencies to deliver engineering systems that are economical, safe, secure and easy to maintain and operate. Our engineers are also designing a campus-wide building management system (BMS) to support multiple buildings with different programming functions and engineering.
