Laney College Athletic Fields and Field House
Oakland, CA

Laney College, one of the four largest colleges of the Peralta Community College District, is embarking on a project that consists of a field house, on-grade parking area and athletic fields (baseball, multi-purpose and track and field). The field house is a two-story building with viewing decks and is approximately 15,000 sf total.

Syska Hennessy Group provided MEP services up to the design development phase needed at the baseball field and multi-purpose field areas, including dugouts, batting cages, scorekeepers, parking pathway lighting, and field lighting. The parking lot also required lighting. All lighting specifications met Peralta Community College District and Laney College standards. We also provided a performance specification for a fire sprinkler system.

Syska is providing full photovoltaic (PV) design on the 100-space parking carports and the roof of the athletic field house. Two separate grid-tied PV systems provide 214 KW and 68 kW of electricity, respectively. Both PV systems are interconnected with the serving utility company metering equipment.

The project design intent is to achieve LEED Silver certification at a minimum.
