LOS ANGELES, CA -- June 14, 2007 -- Syska
Hennessy Group, Inc. was honored today with a Los Angeles
Architectural Award for 2000 Avenue of the Stars for outstanding
architecture in the New Buildings category. Hosted by the
Los Angeles Business Council (LABC), the 37th annual awards
ceremony brought together world renowned architects, contractors
and developers to acknowledge and celebrate the most laudable
new projects in Los Angeles County. The
Los Angeles Architectural Awards are presented to the project
teams whose contributions improve the quality of architecture
and enhance the urban fabric of Los Angeles.
"We are very pleased to recognize 2000 Avenue of the Stars for helping to
showcase Los Angeles as a truly world class city. It is the collaboration
and hard work of their entire project team that makes this type of innovative
development possible," according to Mary Leslie, President of the Los Angeles
Business Council.
Syska Hennessy Group’s Los Angeles office designed mechanical-electrical-plumbing
(MEP) systems building solutions to optimize energy consumption with flexibility
to accommodate future demand. A lifecycle analysis was completed to determine
the payback of engineering a central plant on the roof of the building versus
purchasing hot and chilled water from a third-party central plant facility, as
do most other business residents of Century City. Based on a projected
system life-cycle of approximately 25-30 years, Syska calculated that the central
plant offered a three- to four-year payback compared with the cost of purchasing
hot and chilled water from the third-party supplier. Moreover, the owner is not
subject to rate fluctuation based on demand.
Syska was also engaged
to provide MEP design services for tenant fit-outs, such as Creative Artists
Agency, the Annenberg Foundation and Imperial Capital.
Awardees were selected by a nine-member jury of distinguished
peers including architects, contractors and developers. To receive an award, projects had
to be located within Los Angeles County and completed during 2005 or 2006 (“unbuilt” category
exempt). Griffith Observatory received the grand prize for
the renovation of the interior of the observatory, as well
as its commitment to the conservation of historic materials.
The restoration and expansion of the observatory has renewed one
of the world’s
most famous and treasured leaders in public astronomy.
