Genzyme Genetics, a business unit of Genzyme Corporation, is a leading, nationwide provider of high quality genetic testing and genetic counseling services for physicians and their patients. With laboratories and counseling facilities located across the US, Genzyme Genetics offers extensive reproductive and cancer testing services, supported by innovative technology and a commitment to quality service and trusted information. Genzyme's Phoenix laboratory is dedicated to oncology diagnostic testing. With several recent staff additions and a need for technology upgrades, Genzyme decided to move the Phoenix office to a new location that could better accommodate their needs.

After locating a suitable space in an existing complex, Syska was contracted to customize the space into a high-tech laboratory facility to support Genzyme's services. Although Genzyme did not pursue LEED® certification, the space is designed to LEED Certified standards. Specialty features include Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) analysis and microscopy suites, chemical waste area and a humidity-controlled laboratory. The team worked within an aggressive construction schedule and incorporated several energy-efficient features to achieve the owner's project goals. Sustainable elements include demand ventilation control, occupancy sensors, waterless urinals, low flow fixtures and lighting controls in the common areas and offices. The facility also features secured spaces and 24-hour security.
