The convention center, which is located in the heart of the city
at Mount Vernon Square, covers six city blocks and boasts
as being one of the nation’s top ten largest convention facilities.
With an anticipated 2.5 million people annually, a portion
of the exhibit space is below ground allowing for more space and
an aesthetically pleasing building. The design included a condition
to have a large area for bus and taxi ramp as well as an on site
metro station.

Innovations and Solutions:
The Vertical Transportation Group reviewed the design documents to ensure
conformance to the elevator and accessiblity codes. In collaboration
with local code authorities, we reviewed the Fire and Life Safety systems
and interface components such as heat and smoke
detectors relative to the Vertical Transportation Systems. Modifications made
to the vertial transportation systems based on review comments allowed for improved
operation and traffic flows.
