Family and Friends of the 184 people who lost their lives during
the attack on the Pentagon on September 11 banded together to raise
funds to design, build and maintain a permanent memorial to their
loved ones. The memorial will open on September 11, 2008.
Over 1,000 designs were considered before one was selected to be
constructed on the 2 acres over which the plane flew on the Pentagon
grounds. The design calls for 184 Memorial Units; each consists of
a bench and reflecting pool.
Having been involved in the reconstruction of the damaged section
of the Pentagon, Syska Hennessy Group is pleased to be providing
the mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering consulting required.
Our engineers coordinated with the landscape architect and Memorial
Unit designer to insure that the water supply and return system as
well as the power supply would support the units.
The park is to be built on hallowed ground which means that all utilities,
both above and below ground, have to be relocated. Syska worked with
the Pentagon Facilities Group so that the changeover would not adversely
effect normal operations in the main facility. The Pentagon Renovation
office required that all designs and modifications be 3D modeled in
Microstation. |
