Rendering of Kimsey
Athletic Center within Michie Stadium Athletic Complex

When Michie Stadium Athletic Complex, at the United States Military
Academy in West Point, New York required new construction of the
telecommunications, audiovisual technology, and security systems,
they turned to Syska Hennessy Group. This special environment – a
95,000 sq. ft. Department of Defense academic and training center – was
in need of a security system to remotely monitor sensitive areas
to prevent intrusion and safety incidents.
Syska Hennessy Group’s Technology Team was responsible
for the design and specification of the state-of-the-art audiovisual
infrastructure for the various types of facilities including Trainer’s
Area, Recruiting Conference rooms, Auditorium, Coach’s Conference
rooms and a multi-purpose conference and training rooms. The audiovisual
system design supports the remote site-training program via Dixon
Live Event Editor. Controlled systems, including Syska-designed
projection units, audio enhancement systems, video teleconferencing
units
and whiteboards, required a consultant well-versed in their diverse
uses and inherent need for hidden security.
Syska also designed a PC-based security system to provide access
control, intrusion detection, closed circuit television, surveillance
(CCTV) and key control and monitoring. A state of the art intrusion
detection system was used to protect the invaluable artifacts
on display in the Army Hall of Sports, including the three Heisman
Trophies awarded to cadets of the past. Security and safety cameras
were employed to remotely monitor sensitive areas to prevent intrusion
and safety incidents.
