Syska Hennessy Group has acquired Caretsky & Associates Consulting Engineers, a firm with roots in the Houston area.

The two consulting engineering firms are based in New York City, but Caretsky has an office in Houston and is working on several projects in the region.

Caretsky's Houston operations are now a regional office of Syska Hennessy Group Inc., serving health care, critical facilities, research labs and higher education markets.

The office will continue under the direction of Lance McKnight, who has managed Caretsky's Houston operations since 2003.

Caretsky's managing partner, Bill Caretsky, has been named a senior vice president at Syska Hennessy Group and is responsible for major health care projects as well as the growth of the Houston market and relationships with the region's leading architectural firms.

Caretsky's partners, Jan Gasparec and Tim Krawetz, have also joined the firm.

Syska says it is expanding its Houston office and that it is hiring staff to work on new and existing projects.

"Having an office and team in Texas allows us to locally serve this region as our national health sciences and critical facilities practices keep growing," says John Magliano, CEO of Syska Hennessy Group Inc. "Caretsky's presence here dovetailed with Syska Hennessy's strategic goals for continued growth within focused markets."

Locally, Caretsky was awarded the Baylor College of Medicine adult ambulatory care center project. Ongoing projects in the region include the design of Brazosport Memorial Hospital's new addition, numerous projects at Rice University including their nanotech and bioinformatics laboratory renovations, Texas A&M's Geophysic's Lab and clean Room, St. Luke's Hospital and medical office building and Methodist Hospital San Jacinto facility renovations.

Others include several commercial projects and a branch bank for Post Oak Bank in Houston.
